Bandai Namco supports charity challenge on world’s largest PAC-MAN machine

Bandai Namco Amusement Europe has teamed up with Guinness World Record holder Ronnie Weston for his biggest challenge yet on the world’s largest PAC-MAN machine.

As part of the event, Ronnie and his friend Martin Lewis will attempt to win a combined score of one million points in a single game on the world’s largest multi-player PAC-MAN arcade machine in aid of Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.

Ronnie will then try to bag the same score in a solo round, hosted by Hollywood Bowl at the Lakeside Shopping Centre, in Grays, Essex, on 8th September. The venue has given both competitors access to their centre for practice sessions ahead of their attempt.

The competitive gamer first discovered his love of arcade games in 1979 and has since developed an affinity with Bandai Namco’s cult yellow mascot. He has completed an impressive line-up of challenges featuring different sequels of the iconic game, raising £5,000 for charities, including the Willow Foundation, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, as well as the NHS.

The pair have already surpassed 70% of their £1,000 initial fundraising target for their September challenge, with less than a week to go.

PAC-MAN World Record holder Ronnie Weston, said: “I have played PAC-MAN since aged 12 and it is a game that has always captured my attention. The competitive element came years later and since then, I’m proud to have been awarded several world records.

“Bandai Namco’s PAC-MAN is perfect for charity fundraising as it is renowned worldwide as the highest-grossing arcade game of all time. I am thrilled to have raised so much money over the years on a game that so many people have fond memories of. Martin and I are very much looking forward to this week’s challenge and want to thank both Bandai Namco and Hollywood Bowl for their support.”

Lucy Miller, Community Fundraising Executive at Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, said: “We are so grateful for Ronnie and Martin’s ongoing support. The hard work and enthusiasm they have put into their fundraising is truly admirable. As our charity receives no government funding, we simply could not continue to support seriously ill children and their families without support from local fundraisers. A huge thank you to both PAC-MAN champions for choosing to support us!”

Tony Stone, Head of Amusements at Hollywood Bowl Group, added: “When we heard about Ronnie and Martin’s latest challenge, we were proud to offer our Lakeside centre for the occasion so they could put in the hours of practice required to take on this mammoth challenge.

“With the aim of achieving 1m points in  a single game with endless power-pellets to eat, this will be a heart-pounding event, for our champion players and spectators alike.”
