World of Rides Take Token Measures

World of Rides has been compelled to boost their production of both tokens and token coin mechanisms ahead of the 2024 summer season due to an ever-increasing demand from UK operators!

The rise in cashless payments year-on-year since Covid has highlighted the high running costs of non-gaming machines to UK operators, both large and small.

Customer Support Manager Andrew Robinson noted that a significant part of the excitement of playing any amusement machine for most players still involves inserting the coin and hearing it roll down inside to start the machine. This is especially true for coin-operated static children’s rides and children’s battery rides.

Additionally, whenever a token is used to operate a ride, any unused tokens held by players at the end of the day ensure that they return to the same operator on another day to spend their remaining tokens. This is not the case with cash, which can be spent almost anywhere, including with competitors!

Tokens only require one or two token dispensing change machines per site to be connected to the internet, avoiding the expense of connecting every amusement machine. Operators also avoid paying monthly charges and commission fees for every machine transaction, the risk of machines being in dead reception areas, or machines going offline during global internet outages.

Furthermore, the perceived value of a token can be adjusted during price promotions to combat lower incomes during quiet periods. Top UK token operators offer pre-made bags of tokens for purchase at the cash desk in £10, £20, and £30 increments.

During the ongoing Cost-of-Living Crisis, official surveys have found that the public prefers using coins or tokens over cashless payments to help budget their spending.

When asked how long a token lasts, the answer is uncertain, as some operators still use the very first tokens made over fifty years ago!

As a result, we have had to double our production immediately, said Andrew, and we may need to increase it further once the school holidays start. We have already sold an extra one hundred thousand tokens and dozens of token coin mechanisms this past week alone, as all operators prepare for the school holiday rush!
