Leading jukebox provider TouchTunes I Soundnet has released its annual top ten mostplayed tracks of the year and it is a heady cocktail of old and new.
No surprises that Kenny Rogers – The Gambler makes the list once again – the track is amainstay of the jukebox charts and an evergreen favourite among pub goers. Bryan Adams’Summer of ’69 creeps in at number 10 and the Canadian rocker recently revealed that thetrack had a steamier meaning than many had previously considered!
Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire is unbelievably 15 years old already and has topped our jukeboxcharts before – this absolute banger is also joined by The Killers’ Mr. Brightside at number 6on our list and this was released back in 2003.
Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding are at number 5 with Miracle – a song released in March thisyear with a strong Eurodance and techno feel to it. It is a third collaboration for the pairwho were once also romantically involved.
Belter from Scottish singer/songwriter Gerry Cinnamon comes in at number 4; the artistheadlined the Reading and Leeds festivals this year, undoubtedly contributing to this high ranking.
In third place is Chris Stapleton’s version of Tennessee Whiskey – a song which has been recorded by many artists including Etta James (under the title I’d Rather Go Blind).Stapleton’s version is R&B influenced and was recorded for the artists’ debut albumreleased in 2015.
Classic rock track Sweet Child O’ Mine from Guns N’ Roses is at number two – this is a song that remind many of us of childhood memories – as it was released in 1987!
This leaves our number one spot to Miley Cyrus and a track that was ubiquitous this summer – Flowers. It was the most-streamed, most-downloaded, and most-heard song on the radio of the first half of 2023 and can be considered the year’s most successful revenge song. Was Miley throwing shade to Jennifer Lawrence with her gold dress in the video? If so, it just added to the track’s notoriety!
“The annual jukebox charts of most played hits reminds us of why pub music is so important,” says Lee Taylor, Head of Music, TouchTunes I Soundnet. “These are tracks that bring people together, they are sing-along songs and nostalgic masterpieces. No wonder, that jukeboxes not only create revenue themselves but contribute to dwell time and wet sales!”
